Your guide to
Ship Together.
Set a clear holding policy, accept paid purchases and prepare combined parcels. Start with the Free workflow, then set up Pro customer shipping payments and packing tools.
Before you install
Ship Together Free handles paid holds and manually arranged parcels. The separate Pro add-on adds customer shipping payments and packing tools. Sections marked Pro require that add-on.
You need WordPress 6.6 or later, WooCommerce 9.2 or later and PHP 8.0 or later. Classic checkout, Checkout Blocks, HPOS and legacy WooCommerce order storage are supported. Pro requires a compatible Free version to remain active. Keep both plugins updated together.
Test your actual payment gateway, theme, checkout and email delivery on staging before offering held purchases. Cash on delivery does not establish a paid hold or confirm shipping payment. For bank transfers, only confirm payment after the money has arrived.
Install Free and set your policy
- 1
Download the Free ZIP from this page. In WordPress, open Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, upload the ZIP and activate it. WooCommerce must be active.
- 2
In WooCommerce → Settings → Shipping, configure an enabled normal delivery method in your shipping zones. WooCommerce needs shipping configured before checkout can show the hold choice.
- 3
Open WooCommerce → Ship Together → Settings. Set the Checkout label and Holding policy. Explain storage terms, how customers arrange delivery, how shipping charges are agreed and how to contact you.
- 4
Enable Offer held purchases when your setup is ready. New installations start with new holds paused. Turning the option off later stops new holds while existing records remain manageable.
The holding policy is plain text. Automatic storage charges and dispatch deadlines are not enforced. The download on this site is the installation route; WordPress.org submission is planned for later.
Install Pro and activate your licence
- 1
Install and activate Free first, with WooCommerce active. Pro is a separate add-on and needs Free to remain active.
- 2
Choose a Pro plan on the product page. Create or sign in to your DawsonyWeb account, review the annual subscription and complete payment through Stripe.
- 3
After payment is confirmed, open My Plugins in your DawsonyWeb account. Download the Ship Together Pro ZIP and copy your licence key.
- 4
In WordPress, open Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the Pro ZIP, install it and activate it alongside Free.
- 5
Open WooCommerce → Ship Together → Settings. Under Pro licence, paste the key and select Activate / check licence. Activation enables private updates and support for this site.
- 6
Configure your shipping rate, weight and order limits, and reminder settings. Test a held purchase, customer shipping request, payment and dispatch with your actual store setup before offering the workflow to customers.
Pro plans are annual subscriptions and renew until cancelled. Manage renewal, invoices and payment details in your DawsonyWeb account. Cancelling renewal leaves access in place until the paid period ends.
Updates, new Pro downloads and support require an active licence. Installed Pro features continue after licence expiry or a licensing-service outage. Keep backups and update both plugins while your licence is active.
Your plan limits the number of activated sites. Deactivate the old site through the plugin licence screen or your account before moving a licence to a new domain.
Test your first held purchase
Sign in as a test customer and buy an eligible physical product. Choose the hold option and pay for the goods. After confirmed payment, the order becomes Paid — held for shipping.
Check My Account → Held purchases, the store Ship Together dashboard and the held-purchase email. Original product payments and invoices remain on their original WooCommerce orders. Do not force an unpaid order into a paid status just to make it selectable.

Prepare and send a manual parcel
- 1
Agree delivery and any shipping charge with the customer. Collect that charge through your existing process where needed.
- 2
In WooCommerce → Ship Together → Held purchases, select eligible whole orders for the same customer and destination.
- 3
Confirm that delivery and any charge have been agreed separately, then choose Prepare manual parcel.
- 4
Open the parcel under Shipping requests. Arrange your carrier service and physically send the parcel.
- 5
Confirm I have dispatched this parcel and choose Mark as dispatched. The linked original orders are completed and the customer receives a dispatch email.
A manual parcel creates a zero-total fulfilment record and collects no shipping payment. Its label explains that shipping was arranged separately. Free does not buy a label or book collection.

Customer shipping requests
Install and activate Pro alongside Free. Customer shipping requests are part of the separate Pro add-on and are not included in the Free download.
Customers select eligible whole orders in My Account → Held purchases, review the destination, shipping charge and tax, then choose Confirm and continue to payment. A zero-total quote instead offers Confirm shipment request.
The shop sees Ready to pack after payment is confirmed, or after a valid zero-total request is accepted. Goods already linked to a request cannot enter a second parcel.
If the delivery address needs to change, the customer should contact the shop before requesting shipping. Editing the account address alone does not rewrite the destination on existing purchases.

Rates, weights and limits
The Pro rate is your base shipping charge + total recorded product weight in kilograms × your additional charge per kilogram, plus any applicable WooCommerce shipping tax. This is a store-defined domestic rate, not a live carrier quote.
Base shipping charge applies once per combined shipment and excludes tax. Set Additional charge per kg to zero for a flat rate. Set Maximum shipment weight (kg) to zero to disable the weight limit. Any positive weight limit requires recorded weights, even with a flat rate.
For flat pricing without weight checks, set both Additional charge per kg and Maximum shipment weight to zero. Maximum orders per shipment can be set from 1 to 50.
Weights are recorded when goods are purchased. Changing current catalogue weights does not rewrite existing recorded purchase weights. For purchases without recorded weights, use flat pricing with no weight limit or arrange a manual parcel.

Packing slips and tracking
After a request is ready to pack, Pro offers a combined packing slip listing the items, quantities, SKUs and original-order references. Use your normal carrier or label service to send the parcel.
In either Free or Pro, when recording dispatch, optionally enter a tracking reference and a complete http or https tracking URL. Ship Together stores the information you enter; it does not generate a tracking number or retrieve live carrier events. Saved tracking remains visible if Pro is deactivated.

Payments, refunds and review states
Awaiting payment means the separate shipping payment has not been confirmed. Customers can return to the existing request in Held purchases to pay. Inspect its WooCommerce order, gateway transaction and notes before dispatching or changing its state.
Changes to the source purchases can invalidate an unpaid request or put a paid or prepared request into Needs review. Read the shipping order notes and inspect every original purchase, including edits and refunds. Do not create another parcel for goods already linked to a request.
For an undispatched paid shipping request, fully refund the shipping payment through WooCommerce before preparing a fresh request for eligible remaining goods. A partial shipping refund does not release goods as if the request were cancelled. Eligible undispatched zero-total requests and manual parcels can be reset using the provided shop action.
If dispatch was interrupted, verify the physical parcel and each original order before resolving the request. It remains blocked for manual review, and refunding it does not automatically reopen the goods. The plugin does not automatically refund payments or dispatch parcels.
Reminder emails
Set First reminder after (days) to zero to switch reminders off. Otherwise, eligible held purchases can trigger a reminder after that delay. Repeat reminder every (days) controls subsequent reminders, grouped by customer.
Reminders rely on WordPress scheduled tasks and working WooCommerce email delivery. They are not promised at an exact clock time. Check the store mail setup and delivery logs if messages do not arrive. Reminders never charge a card or create a shipment.
Supported purchases and limits
This release supports signed-in customers, one store currency and delivery within the store base country. Goods must be paid, in-stock simple physical products or variations. Whole orders must share a customer, recipient, shipping address and compatible tax details.
Live carrier quotes, carrier label purchases, international consolidation, partial-order selection, backorders, preorders, deposits, split shipping packages, mixed virtual or unsupported carts and multi-currency are not included.
Local verification covered WordPress 7.1.2, WooCommerce 11.1.0 and PHP 8.3.30, with HPOS and legacy storage. Minimum requirements are not a claim that every version combination or third-party gateway was individually tested.
Troubleshooting
No hold option: check Offer held purchases, customer login, the destination country, store currency, an enabled normal shipping method and every cart item. Pro weight rules can also make a cart ineligible.
Cannot select a purchase: check confirmed payment, held status, refunds and whether a shipping request already contains it. Orders with different destinations or incompatible tax details need separate handling.
Old purchase still reports missing weight: editing the catalogue does not rewrite a weight already recorded on that purchase. Use a flat rate without a weight limit or a manual parcel.
Held purchases returns a 404: check the WooCommerce My Account page and that Free is active, then save Settings → Permalinks once to refresh rewrite rules. Clear any relevant page cache.
Missing emails: test normal WooCommerce email delivery and inspect the mail provider logs. For reminders, also check Pro activation, the configured delay and that WordPress scheduled tasks run.
Pro tools disappear: both Free and Pro must be active alongside WooCommerce. A missing or expired update/support licence does not disable installed Pro features.
Updates, licences and removal
Free has no licence client or external API connection. The Pro licence is for private updates and support; installed features keep working without an active licence.
After an administrator explicitly activates a Pro licence, the licence key and site URL are sent to dawsony.com. Licensed update checks also send the installed Pro version. No order or customer data is sent to that service.
Turn off Offer held purchases to pause new holds. Deactivating Pro stops new customer requests and reminders, but Free continues to manage existing shipping payments, refunds, eligible cancellations, dispatch and saved tracking. Premium settings are retained for reactivation.
Fulfil or migrate outstanding purchases before deactivating Free. Commerce records are retained on uninstall; settings and schedules are removed. Deactivation and uninstall do not refund payments or dispatch goods. Release a Pro site activation in Settings before uninstalling if you need to move its licence.
What changed in 1.1.3
Back up the store and test updates on staging. If moving from the development release, keep Free active and review your holding policy and any Pro settings after updating. Update Free first, then Pro, and review your settings before accepting new customer shipping requests.
- New customer shipping quotes, requests and shipping-payment creation now live entirely in the separate Pro add-on.
- Tracking reference and link entry are now included in Free, alongside manual parcels and dispatch notifications.
- Free continues to manage existing shipping payments, refunds and dispatch records when Pro is deactivated. Packing manifest generation lives in Pro.
- Update both editions to 1.1.3. Pro requires Free 1.1.3 or newer; installed features remain independent of licence availability.
