WooCommerce shipping rates missing after update: what I check

Checkout shows no shipping options after a WooCommerce or plugin update. Here is the checklist I run on zones, methods, cache, and table rates before blaming the host.

WooCommerce shipping rates missing after update: what I check

I see this after plugin batches more than people admit. Cart was fine yesterday. Today the customer gets "no shipping methods available" or a blank rate list at checkout. Stock is fine. Payment gateways still show. Shipping is the bit that vanished.

Here is how I chase missing WooCommerce shipping rates without rewriting the whole zone map on day one.

Confirm what actually changed

Write down the last day of changes. WooCommerce core, a shipping plugin (table rate, flexible shipping, ShipStation, Royal Mail), a tax plugin, a cache or "optimisation" plugin, or a PHP bump on the host. That list is your suspect sheet. More updates on a broken cart are the wrong next step.

Reproduce as a real customer

Open a private window. Add a product with weight and dimensions set. Use a real postcode in a zone you know should match. Try guest checkout and a logged-in customer. If rates appear for one and not the other, look at customer roles, membership plugins, and cached cart fragments before you touch zone settings.

Check zones and methods first

  • The postcode still sits inside an enabled shipping zone
  • The method inside that zone is still enabled (flat rate, free shipping, local pickup, table rate)
  • Free shipping rules did not suddenly require a coupon or a higher minimum after an update
  • "Ship to a different address" uses a country or postcode your zones do not cover
  • A shipping class on the product no longer matches any method

I open WooCommerce → Settings → Shipping and walk zone by zone. A disabled method or an empty zone after a migration is more common than a mysterious host fault.

Weight, dimensions, and class data

Table rate and carrier plugins need product weight and size. If an import or bulk edit wiped those fields, rates disappear for those SKUs only. Check one failing product in the admin. If weight is blank and the method is weight-based, that is your answer.

Cache and script conflicts

Page cache, object cache, and CDN rules that treat cart or checkout as static will serve yesterday's empty rate response. Exclude /cart and /checkout from full-page cache. Temporarily disable JS "combine" or "defer all" plugins that touch checkout. A console error on the shipping update AJAX call is worth reading before you rebuild zones.

Read the log instead of guessing

Enable WooCommerce shipping debug (or the shipping plugin's own log) and place a test order attempt. Fatal PHP in a rate calculator, a missing API key after a gateway-style shipping plugin update, or a tax plugin throwing on address change will often show there while the front just says no methods available.

When to call someone in

If zones look correct, products have weight, cache is excluded, and you still have no rates after an hour, stop. Missing shipping blocks every paid order. I keep a short path for this kind of store rescue on WordPress and WooCommerce support.

Need a second pair of eyes on missing shipping rates? If checkout is live and customers cannot get a rate after an update, I can jump on WooCommerce support, read the real error, and get rates showing again.

WordPress and WooCommerce support →

Fix the zone, weight, or cache issue that actually broke rates, then test shipping updates on staging next time. That habit saves more lost carts than another "performance" plugin ever will.
