Woo Ads conversion not recording: what I check first
When Google Ads or Meta says purchases are missing from your WooCommerce store, here is the checklist I run before blaming the ads platform.

You are spending on Google Ads or Meta. Orders are coming through WooCommerce. The ads dashboard still looks quiet. That mismatch is stressful, and it is usually a tracking problem rather than "ads do not work".
Here is the order I check things in before I start rewriting campaigns.
Confirm a real purchase fired
Place a small test order yourself (or refund one). Note the order ID, time, and payment method. In GA4 or your tag manager preview, check whether a purchase event fired on the thank you page. If nothing fires locally, the ads pixel never had a chance.
Thank you page and redirects
Conversion tags usually need the order-received URL. Custom thank you plugins, multi-step checkouts, and payment gateways that bounce off-site then land on a different URL can skip the pixel. Watch the final URL after pay. If it is not the standard Woo thank you page, fix that path first.
Consent, blockers, and caching
- Cookie banners that block tags until consent can cut a big chunk of recorded conversions
- Ad blockers and privacy browsers drop client-side pixels often
- Full page cache on checkout or thank you pages can serve a stale empty shell
None of that means the ads failed. It means your numbers are incomplete.
GTM versus hard-coded tags
Two purchase tags firing, or one half-configured, is common after a theme or plugin change. Open Tag Assistant or Meta Pixel Helper on the thank you page. You want one clean purchase event with value and currency, not duplicates and not a page view pretending to be a sale.
Server-side and gateway gaps
If customers pay on Stripe or PayPal hosted pages, browser tags miss more than you think. Enhanced conversions, Measurement Protocol, or the gateway's own conversion API help, but only if order data is passed through correctly. Match a recent order ID to what the ads UI actually received.
When the store side is the mess
If tags fire on some products and not others, or only for guests, dig into theme templates, custom order status flows, and plugins that replace the thank you page. I wrote a longer take on mismatched leads and analytics here: why website leads and analytics do not always match.
Tracking on a live Woo store can get messy. I tidy GTM, pixels, and thank-you paths so purchase events actually land where they should.
Get one verified purchase event working end to end. Then judge the ads. Guessing from a broken pixel wastes budget faster than a weak creative ever will.
